Jon Stewart slams lawmakers for failing to extend 9/11 first responder fund

Comedian Jon Stewart struck the representatives on Tuesday at a hearing of the House Judiciary Branch subcommittee on the September 11 funding for the Victim Compensation Fund, and said it was "shameful" that more of them were not attend

"As I sit here today, I can not help thinking that this room is an incredible metaphor for the entire process that medical care and benefits for the first responders of September 11 have arrived at," Stewart said in his statement. "Behind me, a room full of lifeguards on September 11, and in front of me, a Congress almost empty."

Representative Steve Cohen noted that the hearing was held before the Judicial Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties and not the entire committee.
